Lahore: capital of living defenseless one time over again

The assault on the Special Intelligence Agency Office in Model Town, Lahore on Monday is the earliest terrorist assault in the city in current year 2010. The city had until that time remained a object of terrorist attacks throughout 2008 & 2009.

Fascinatingly, majority of the attacks have taken place throughout the month of March, including the one on Monday, which caused approximately lots of injuries. At least 160 people have lost their lives in these terrorist attacks. Majority of the victims, including the deceased and injured were civilians, despite majority of the attacks being intended at security agencies, the omission being the double bombings in Moon Market, Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore on November 2, 2009.

The similarities strength is an accident or the fact that in the early hour’s traffic provides a chance to the terrorists to move in secret to their targets.

GPO Chowk on January 10, 2008: A man came to police force by walking and blew himself up outside the Lahore High Court, slaughtered 24 people and injuring 80. Around 20 Lahore police constable and officers were killed in the attack. The attack was the first major suicide attack in Lahore and shocked the citizens. Following the attack, a wave of kindness was generated from the people towards the police force which was before known as a black ghost.

PN War College on March 4, 2008: Two suicide bombers attacked the Pakistan Navy War College, Mall Road, Lahore, slaughter six people and injuring 23. However, ISPR alleged that three junior-ranked officers were martyred while 16 were injured. The attack was the second one on The Mall.

Federal Investigation Agency blast on March 11, 2008: At least 30 people were killed and over 200 harmed in twin suicide blasts at the FIA headquarters on Temple Road, Lahore and an office of the Special Investigation Unit in “F” Block Model Town. A mini Mazda truck crashed into the central entrance of the FIA building, running over a constable guarding at the gate. The assailant then rams the truck into a car parking near the reception. The blast was so harsh that the windowpane of buildings within a two-km radius was traumatized.

Garhi Shahu blasts on October 7, 2008: Three short power bombs burst in three juice shops in Garhi Shahu, these shops were well known as dating point in Lahore, its strongly suspect that extremist have target these shops, injuring five people, including two children. Nix
losses were reported on the spot, but, a individual who was injured passed away a day after.

Blasts at WPAF on November 22, 2008: Three blasts at the World Performing Arts Festival at the Alhamra Cultural Complex created terror among the people. The festival however completed calmly and no casualties were reported.

GOR-II blast on December 24, 2008: A woman who was house maid was killed and other five people were injured when a mini-truck packed with explosives blew up in GOR-II.

Theatres targeted: Fear absorbed the city when short power blasts targeted two theatres,
Alfalah and Tamaseel, on January 9, 2009.

Liberty terrorist attack: At least seven people were killed and six cricketers, a coach and
a Pakistani umpire were injured in an attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team at the Liberty
Roundabout on March 3. The attackers fired rounds of AK-47, hand grenades and rockets at the
Sri Lankan team’s convoy and managed to flee the scene.

Manawan attack on March 30, 2009: Terrorists attacked the Police Training School Manawan. At least eight police cadets were killed in the attacks. Unofficial sources had put the death toll at 27.

Badian & Jama Naeemiya On June 12, 2009: A suicide attacker killed five men, including
famous religious scholar Mufti Dr. Sarfraz Naeemi. Terrorists tried to take over the Elite Force and police training schools in Bedian and Manawan along with the previously attacked FIA building. Around 20 people were killed in the incident.

Allama Iqbal Town blast on August 13, 2009: A suicide bomber killed nine people by hitting a police picket in Allama Iqbal Town Moon Market.

Babu Saboo Interchange on November 2, 2009: A terrorist who was stopped at the Babu Saboo interchange on Motorway blew himself, injuring 16 people.

Moon Market blasts on December 7, 2009: Two bomb blasts were carried out in Allama Iqbal Town’s Moon Market, killing at least 70 people.
